What's Behind Hypnosis
Earlier in the day I had dropped off a hypnosis flyer at Kinko's to be copied. Now I was picking it up. The clerk asked me to check it out. As we looked down he saw that it was a hypnosis flyer. He automatically stiffened and kept his head down trying to avoid looking me in the eye as if I could zap him right there. As I handed him the money he was still looking down.
This happened in the early 1990's. But it could still happen today. I have been a Hypnotist since 1983 and have seen attitudes about Hypnosis change. In the 1980's a lot of people showed interest. I mentioned that I was a Hypnotist and they would ask questions as they would about any interesting subject. In the 1990's I met people like the Kinko's clerk who was afraid. Others were skeptical.
In the last few years I have been getting a different reaction. That there is nothing behind Hypnosis. It's just a parlor trick. At stage shows people see that it takes just a few moments to hypnotize someone and then the hypnotist makes them do silly tricks. Nothing is explained so you don't see what's behind hypnosis. How can a Hypnotist get someone to quack like a duck? There must be something there.
What's behind Hypnosis? A baby has a conscious mind in its awareness and an unconscious mind not in its awareness. The unconscious contains the deep programming and is unknown at present. As this child grows up her conscious mind fills up school, experiences, habits and more. It becomes too big for awareness and splits into the conscious mind and the inner mind which is also called the subconscious. The conscious mind usually dominates awareness. Anger, competitive sports, a good movie at the theater are instances when the inner mind takes over your awareness.
The inner mind is what's behind Hypnosis. It contains your imagination, memories, habits, emotions, creativity, helps direct body and more. Hypnosis brings your inner mind into your awareness so that you can work on these parts to quit smoking, lose weight, get better grades, whatever you want. You can change bad habits into good habits. You can tap into your creativity to finish that article which is due today. You can discover what is holding you back. Your inner mind is a valuable resource and it is waiting for you.
